Eight candidates running for BSU board seats

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. (Jan. 4, 2012) – Eight candidates, including two incumbents, are running for three seats on the board of directors of Bonita Springs Utilities Inc. The candidates are retired educator Richard Brant, former city council member Richard Ferreira, retired deputy fire chief Edward Fitzgerald, retired business executive Domingo Garcia, licensed professional engineer Richard Lundberg, incumbent and licensed professional engineer Dave McKee, energy company vice president Mike Malloy, and incumbent and retired Fortune 500 company executive James Strecansky.
            BSU member-customers elect three fellow members each year for a three-year term on the utility’s nine-member board of directors. The utility will mail ballots and candidate profiles to member-customers in mid-February. Election results will be announced during the utility’s annual meeting Tuesday, March 20. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the BSU office at 11900 East Terry Street.
            Other board members are Paul Attwood, Bob Bachman, Hank Hochstetler, Frank Liles, John Mathes, Steve McIntosh and Robert Sharkey. The board of directors meets at 5 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. In addition, each board member serves on various subcommittees and work groups, devoting from 10 to 60 hours a month working with the utility’s management and staff.
            Bonita Springs Utilities is a not-for-profit water and wastewater utility founded by local citizens in 1971. Today, the member-owned utility serves more than 40,000 homes and businesses in a 60-square-mile area. For more information, visit the BSU website at www.BSU.us.

Water Conservation
The South Florida Water Management District is a regional governmental agency that oversees the water resources in the southern half of the state, covering 16 counties from Orlando to the Florida Keys and serving a population of 7.5 million residents.
